Days Out around Praa Sands

Beach

There’s more to see and do within just a few miles of Praa Sands than you could fit into a lifetime! Just one bay away the romantic mediaeval castle that is St Michaels Mount is ‘impossibly picturesque’ as it rises out of the water, both a museum and a home it’s a place to revisit time and time again.

The largest town locally, Penzance is just a few miles away. It’s has a great character and a wealth of good shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. The main thoroughfare, Market Jew Street, is a busy shopping street that connects with the harbour area through the Wharfside Shopping Centre. There’s the pedestrianised Causewayhead and the delightful Chapel Street, an ancient thoroughfare that winds down to the seafront between handsome traditional buildings, specialist shops, pubs and restaurants.

Near Penzance you’ll find the National Trust’s Trengwainton, a beautiful, sheltered garden with stunning views across Mount’s Bay to The Lizard, and with plants impossible to grow elsewhere in the country. At the Penrose Estate, Cornwall’s largest natural lake, Loe Pool has some magnificent walks and bird life, as there are also at the Godolphin Estate nearby.
